Christoph-Matthias Brand (born April 22, 1961 ) is a German lawyer, consultant and banker.

Live and act

After graduating from high school, Brand studied law in Munich and Göttingen at the Kaiser-Wilhelm Gymnasium in Hanover, passed the first state examination in law and was awarded a doctorate in 1992 with the dissertation "Sovereignty for Germany: Fundamentals, history and significance of the two-plus-four contract dated 12. September 1990 "for Dr. jur. PhD. During his student days, he was federal chairman (1985–1987) of the Ring of Christian Democratic Students (RCDS), the student organization of the CDU . He also became a member of the Gottingo-Normannia Göttingen student union. From 1992 to 1994 he completed an MBA at Harvard Business School .

Brand has been with the investment bank Goldman Sachs since 1993 . Since 2010 he has been one of six partners in the German branch in Frankfurt am Main. He has been responsible for the public sector since 1994 and also looks after industrial customers and family businesses. The list of transactions in which he was involved may be enough. a. from the listing on the stock exchange of Deutsche Telekom through the privatization programs of the federal government for Deutsche Telekom and Deutsche Post to the sale of Germany's Paris Club claims against Russia (2004). The takeover of the 7.5% stake in EADS from DaimlerChrysler by private and public investors in 2007 and its replacement in 2012 was also managed by Brand. On behalf of the Federal Agency for Financial Market Stabilization (FMSA / SoFFin), Brand flanked the establishment of the Erste Abwicklungsanstalt (EAA) and the recapitalization of WestLB (2009–2010).

With 48 conversations between October 2009 and January 2013, Brand is the banker who had the most personal contacts with the federal government. This became known when numerous media reported on the close contacts between the financial world and the federal government in early 2013. During this time in the Chancellery he regularly met his "federal brother" Eckart von Klaeden.

As a partner, Brand is deputy chairman of the family council of Miele & Cie. as well as co-chair of the future forum Finanzplatz Frankfurt. He is a member of the board of trustees of the forum thomanum Leipzig eV, chairman of the board of trustees of the Frankfurter Domsingschule and a member of the executive board of the Frankfurt Society. Since June 2019 he has been a member of the board of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung as treasurer .

Brand is married and has two children.
