Life

Origin and studies

Gottfried Ludewig was born in 1982 as the youngest of three siblings. His father is the former politician and manager Johannes Ludewig (CDU). After graduating from high school, Gottfried Ludewig studied economics at the TU Berlin from 2002 to 2007 . After successfully completing his degree in economics, he did his doctorate on the subject of "On the way to new framework conditions for the health insurance market - a regulatory analysis". He completed the work in 2013 and published it in 2014 with NOMOS-Verlag.

Political career

During his studies Ludewig began to get involved in politics. From 2008 to 2010 he was federal chairman of the CDU-affiliated student association RCDS. In this function he was also a member of the federal executive committee of the CDU . Before that he was chairman of the General Student Committee AStA at TU Berlin from 2006 to 2008 .

In 2009 he ran unsuccessfully for the German Bundestag in the Berlin-Pankow constituency. On September 18, 2011, he was elected to the Berlin House of Representatives in the state parliament. There he took over the role of health policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group from his predecessor Mario Czaja .

In 2014 he was elected deputy chairman of the Berlin CDU parliamentary group. Ludewig moved into the House of Representatives via the Pankow district list.

At the state level, he is particularly committed to strengthening research and innovation in the health sector in Berlin . As part of the “Innovation meets politics” series of events, he worked with key players on a ten-point plan with specific measures. Another core theme of his work is strengthening the care sector. Among other things, he introduced a bill for the creation of a Berlin Chamber of Nursing - as an institutionalized representation of the care sector - in the Berlin House of Representatives. He is also an avowed supporter of the Flussbad Berlin eV association, which is campaigning for the conversion of the unused arm of the Spree along the Museum Island into a bath.

In addition to his work as a state politician, he is also active in local politics. Since 2012 he has been the district chairman of the CDU-Pankow, since 2009 chairman of the local association Pankow Nord.

In the 2017 federal election , Ludewig ran for the Berlin-Pankow constituency , but was unable to prevail over Stefan Liebich . However, he is the first to succeed in the event that a CDU mandate holder from Berlin leaves the Bundestag.

At the end of March 2018, it was announced that Ludewig was to move to the Federal Ministry of Health as head of a department for the digitization of the health system that was newly created under Federal Minister Jens Spahn . He took up this position in April 2018.

On April 6, 2018, he resigned his House of Representatives mandate; Dirk Stettner took over for him .

criticism

Ludewig reached a broad public in May 2008 when he called for a "double right to vote for top performers" which was contrary to the right to equality of election granted in Article 38 of the Basic Law . In doing so, he received massive criticism, but subsequently apologized several times for this provocation.
