Martin Röckert (* 1984 in Weimar ) is a German politician (CDU) and political scientist . From October 2013 to October 2015 he was federal chairman of the Ring of Christian Democratic Students (RCDS) and in this function also a member of the federal board of the CDU .

Life and work

After completing secondary school , he obtained the general higher education entrance qualification at the vocational high school in Weimar, specializing in health and social issues . He then successfully completed training as a physiotherapist at the State Vocational School 6 in Erfurt. For the winter semester 2009/10 he began the study of political science and journalism at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz . He completed his studies with a Bachelor of Arts (BA). Rockert was a fellow of the gifted students of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS).

From April 2016 to June 2019, Röckert worked as a consultant for fundamental questions and strategic planning at the regional association of the CDU Thuringia .

When he began his studies in 2009, Röckert began to get involved in politics. He joined the Ring of Christian Democratic Students (RCDS) and the Junge Union (JU). From 2010 to 2012 Röckert was chairman of the RCDS Mainz. In 2011 the RCDS achieved record results in the elections for the student parliament.

From 2010 to 2012 he was a member of the Mainz student parliament and represented the student body as a consultant for university policy and traffic officer from 2011 to 2013 in the General Student Committee (AStA) of the University of Mainz.

Röckert has been a member of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU) since October 3, 2012 . From 2012 to 2013 Röckert was deputy district chairman of the Junge Union Mainz.

At the 68th Federal Delegate Assembly of the RCDS in Berlin on October 27, 2013, he was elected Federal Chairman. Through this office he was also a member of the CDU federal executive committee and a member of the federal technical committee for education, research and innovation. Qua Amt he was also editor of the debate magazine Civis mit Sonde for two years . He was succeeded in 2015 by Jenovan Krishnan .

At the 69th Federal Delegate Assembly of the RCDS on October 3, 2014, Röckert was re-elected as Federal Chairman for a further year. In 2015, Röckert was a member of the party reform commission Meine CDU 2017 of CDU General Secretary Peter Tauber .

From October 2016 to November 2018 Röckert was district chairman of the Junge Union in Weimar and member of the CDU district association Weimar. In the local elections in 2019, he ran for the city council in Weimar.

In September 2019, Röckert accompanied the election campaign of the Austrian People's Party and Sebastian Kurz in the National Council election in Austria 2019 .

Positions

During his tenure, Röckert spoke out in favor of lowering the radio license fee for students. He expressed harsh criticism of the free association of student bodies ( FCS ) and called for a new nationwide student representation, which is sent by the party-affiliated university groups and located at the Federal Ministry of Education and Research . In 2014 he spoke out clearly against a civil clause at German colleges and universities. This would violate the freedom of research according to Article 5 of the Basic Law. In an article for the debate magazine Civis mit Sonde, Röckert criticized the lowering of the level of education in schools, the occasional neglect of education policy by the CDU and called for a better integration of young people and students in the political decision-making processes .

Rockert called in response to the protests against the opening of the new building of the European Central Bank in 2015 the reintroduction of extremism clause .

After the presidential election in the United States in 2016 , Röckert criticized the poor reporting in Germany before the election in an article in the magazine Civis mit Sonde and called for the debate to be made more objective.
