Stephan Eisel (born June 10, 1955 in Landau in the Palatinate ) is a German politician ( CDU ). From 2007 to 2009 he was a member of the German Bundestag .

Life and work

After graduating from high school in 1974 at the Otfried-von-Weißenburg-Gymnasium in Dahn , Eisel did his military service. From 1976 he studied political science , modern history and musicology at the Philipps-Universität Marburg and the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn , graduating with a Magister Artium (MA) in 1982. Eisel then worked as a research assistant at the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Bonn until he moved to the Federal Chancellery in 1983 , where he worked as a speechwriter for Federal Chancellor Helmut Kohl until 1987 . In 1985 he received his doctorate as Dr. phil. at the University of Bonn with Karl Dietrich Bracher . Eisel became Deputy Head of the Chancellor's Office in 1987 and in 1991 took over the management of the “Evaluation of Programs and Models of Political Problem Solving” department in the Federal Chancellery. In 1992 Eisel returned to the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung as an employee and was head of the Political Academy there until 1998. He then headed the “Local Politics” department until 2000, then the “Domestic Policy and Social Market Economy” department until 2002, and finally the “Political Education” department from 2002 to 2007. Since 2010 he has been project manager for the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in the fields of “Internet and Democracy” and “Citizen Participation”.

Eisel was a member of the editorial team of the political monthly magazine Die Politische Demokratie from 2000–2012 and has been a member of the advisory board of the RCDS-affiliated political quarterly magazine Civis mit Sonde since 1994 . Since 2012 he has been the editor in charge of the internet blog kreuz-und-quer.de. a. the former President of the Bundestag Norbert Lammert heard.

Stephan Eisel has been married since 1985.

Political party

Eisel joined the CDU in 1972 and was Deputy Federal Chairman from 1978 to 1979 and finally Federal Chairman of the Ring of Christian Democratic Students (RCDS) from 1979 to 1980 . 1980 to 1982 he was Deputy Chairman of European Democrat Students (EDS).

Eisel was chairman of the CDU district association in Bonn from 1992 to 1998.

MP

Stephan Eisel ran for the German Bundestag in the constituency of Bonn in 2002, 2005 and 2009 , but never won the constituency. On September 3, 2007, he replaced the resigned MP Peter Paziorek in the Bundestag via the state list of North Rhine-Westphalia and became a member of the Committee on European Union Affairs and the Committee on Culture and Media, as well as a deputy member of the sub-committee posted for foreign cultural policy. In addition, he was elected by the German Bundestag as a member of the board of trustees of the research institute CAESAR (center of advanced european studies and research) and the board of trustees of the German Historical Museum (DHM) for the rest of the legislative period . In the 2009 election, Eisel was 2.1 percentage points behind the SPD candidate Ulrich Kelber in the first vote and thus missed the re-entry into the Bundestag.

Functions and offices

At the suggestion of the federal government, Stephan Eisel is a member of the board of trustees of the European network “Remembrance and Solidarity” from 2009 to 2019 and was appointed for another five years in 2014. From 2009 to 2014, the Federal President appointed him as a deputy member of the Board of Trustees of the Jewish Museum Berlin at the suggestion of the Federal Government . Stephan Eisel has been the editor of the internet blog kreuz-und-quer.de (discussion forum on political action based on Christian responsibility), which is edited by Norbert Lammert , Alois Glück , Bernhard Vogel and Erwin Teufel , among others, since September 2012 . Stephan Eisel has been chairman of the Bonn cultural association “Citizens for Beethoven” since April 2013, and vice-chairman of the “Bonner Carnival Festival Committee” since June 2010. In December 2014 Eisel became part of the local radio operator community Bonn / Rhein-Sieg e. V. appointed. Since June 2016 he has been a member of the board of trustees of the International Ludwig van Beethoven Foundation (cultural foundation in Bonn).

Political positions

Stephan Eisel runs several internet blogs. He is a committed advocate of European integration, publishes on the basic values debates in the CDU and is an analyst for eDemocracy .
