tasks

According to the Basic Law , cultural and media policy in Germany is largely a matter for the federal states. The framework conditions and the promotion of culture with importance for the entire nation are taken care of in the Federal Government by the Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM). The Committee for Culture and Media in the German Bundestag works accordingly. It deals with the promotion of German film productions for the cinemas, the work of the international broadcaster Deutsche Welle , the German culture of remembrance, federally funded Berlin projects and European cultural and media policy. The committee also sees itself as a point of contact for institutions, organizations and artists. Up until 2014 there was also a subcommittee on new media within the committee for culture and media, which dealt with the consequences and possible effects of digital media (communication) in particular.
