Melanie Bernstein (born September 28, 1976 in Buchholz in der Nordheide ) is a German politician of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU) and has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2017 .

Life

Growing up in Nordheide , Melanie Bernstein studied applied cultural sciences at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg from 1995 to 2000 after graduating from high school and graduated with a Magister Artium (MA) . From 2000 she was then employed at a start-up company at the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg and other medium-sized companies, and from 2003 at a company for occupational safety and technology in Buchholz. In 2004, Bernstein moved to Kiel as the new state manager of the Junge Union Schleswig-Holstein . From 2005 to 2010 she was Daniel Günther's successor as district manager of the CDU in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde and Neumünster districts . After her parental leave, on October 1, 2014, she was again district manager of the CDU Neumünster.

Melanie Bernstein was the wife of the CDU politician and member of the state parliament, Axel Bernstein (1974-2017), who had a fatal accident in his garden a month before the 2017 federal election and is the mother of twins.

Member of the Bundestag

On October 14, 2016, Bernstein was able to vote in a fight. a. prevail against Werner Kalinka and was nominated as a CDU candidate for the Bundestag . Despite her husband's sudden death in the election campaign, Bernstein stuck to her candidacy. On September 24, 2017, she won the direct mandate in the Bundestag constituency Plön - Neumünster for the CDU with 40.7% of the first votes . In the Bundestag she is a member of the Committee on Family, Seniors, Women and Youth and a member of the Committee on Culture and Media, where she acts as chairwoman of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group.

Honorary positions

Melanie Bernstein was elected to the board of the Kulturpolitische Gesellschaft at the 18th Ordinary General Meeting on November 24, 2018 in Bonn . In the Kleiner Theater am Markt in Wahlstedt , she works on a voluntary basis as chair of the program advisory board.
