Axel Bernstein
Axel Bernstein (born July 27, 1974 in Neumünster ; † August 24, 2017 in Wahlstedt ) was a German politician ( CDU ). From 2005 until his death he was a member of the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament .
Life and work
After graduating from the Dahlmann School in Bad Segeberg in 1994 , Bernstein initially worked as a military service and later as a reserve officer in the armed forces. In 1996 he began studying Middle and Modern History , Political Science and Public Law at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität Kiel , which he completed in 2002 as a Magister Artium . He then worked as a consultant for press and public relations at the CDU state association Schleswig-Holstein and acted as office manager of the CDU state chairman. From 2005 to 2010, Bernstein was editor-in-chief of Schleswig-Holstein-Kurier and completed his doctorate in 2009 . From 2002 he was self-employed in the field of political communication consulting and management consulting .
Bernstein was Evangelical Lutheran . On August 24, 2017, he was found lifeless on his property in Wahlstedt after falling, and the doctor could only determine that he was dead. He was married to the CDU politician Melanie Bernstein and has two children.
Political party
While still at school, Bernstein became a member of the Junge Union in 1992 and was local chairman of the Junge Union Wahlstedt from the year he joined the club until 1996. In 1993 he also joined the CDU and has been a civic member of the CDU parliamentary group in Wahlstedt since then. From 1994 to 2002 he was on the district board of the Junge Union Segeberg , from 1997 on as district chairman. He was first elected to the district executive committee of the CDU Segeberg in 1995 and has been its deputy district chairman since 2001. From 1998 to 2008 he was a member of the district council . In 2001 Bernstein was elected deputy state chairman of the Junge Union Schleswig-Holstein and held this function until 2005. From 2003 to 2008 he was deputy chairman of the CDU district parliamentary group and from 2005 chairman of the CDU in Wahlstedt.
On November 6, 2015, the CDU state executive committee for Schleswig-Holstein elected him as state manager at the suggestion of state chairman Ingbert Liebing . He held this position from November 9, 2015 to October 31, 2016.
MP
From the 16th electoral term, Bernstein was a member of the Schleswig-Holstein Landtag. From 2005 to 2009 he was the environmental policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group and, in his function as chairman of the parliamentary group environment, was a member of the parliamentary group's executive committee. In the 17th electoral term, from 2009 to 2012, he was Parliamentary Secretary . From 2012 he was media policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group and member of the home and legal committee, from 2014 he was chairman of the parliamentary group's working group on home affairs and law and police policy spokesman for his group.
Bernstein entered the state parliament in 2005 with 49.8 percent of the first votes as a directly elected member of the Segeberg-Ost constituency . In the early state elections in Schleswig-Holstein in 2009 , he was re-elected with 41.0 percent of the first votes, as was the case in 2012 . In the 2017 state elections , he was again given the direct mandate of his constituency for the 19th electoral term (with 43.1 percent of the first votes) , but due to his death, Lübeck's CDU district chair Anette Röttger moved up to the state parliament only a few months later .

Social Commitment
From 2004, Bernstein was a member of the economic advisory board of the Lübeck Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK). From 2007 to 2016 he was deputy chairman of the Association for Youth and Cultural Work.
