description

Masayuki Nagare's granite sculpture "Transcendence" or "The Banker's Heart"

At the north foot of the building is a square named in honor of Amadeo Giannini , who founded Bank of America . In the middle of the square you will find the black granite sculpture "Transcendence" by the famous Japanese artist Masayuki Nagare . Another name for the sculpture is “The Banker's Heart”, because near the sculpture is the “Banker Hall”, some sidewalks and stairs that lead towards the high-rise.

On the 52nd floor of the building there is a restaurant, the "Carnelian Room". This restaurant is accessed by one of the few high-speed elevators in San Francisco that is open to the public . The Carnelian Room closed in early 2010.

The building was the tallest building in the city and the west coast when it opened. It was replaced in both areas in 1972 by the 260 meter high Transamerica Pyramid . As of 2018, 555 California Street is the fourth tallest building in San Francisco and the seventh tallest in California .

555 California Street appeared in several film and TV productions, for example in 1971 in the film Dirty Harry , where the building was shown at the beginning, as well as in other scenes in which one could marvel at a generous panoramic view of San Francisco . Likewise, 555 California Street was featured more frequently as part of the Charmed series .
