Simone Barrientos

Simone Barrientos Krauss (born October 5, 1963 in Eisleben ) is a German politician ( Die Linke ) and publisher. In the course of the 2017 Bundestag election, she entered the 19th German Bundestag as a member of the Bavarian State List of the Left . Barrientos is spokeswoman for the Left Party in the Bundestag for cultural policy.

Life

Barrientos grew up in Neustrelitz as the child of a single mother. She completed an apprenticeship as a company electrician and as a utility applicant. In Barriento's Stasi files it is noted at the beginning: "Negatively thinking young people" and "Sympathetic pacifism."

From 1990 to 2008 she worked as a freelance architectural draftsman, interpreter (Spanish), co-owner of a translation agency and in film production. From 2008 to 2017 she was the publisher of Kulturmaschinen , where she edited books by Hermann Kant , Linde Salber and the fiction prose work by Franz Josef Degenhardt . During this time she also worked as a singer, speaker and presenter.

Barrientos has lived in Ochsenfurt since 2014. She has a son.

Political commitment

Barrientos has been a member of the Bavarian State Board of the Left since 2014 . She has been a district councilor in the Würzburg district since the 2020 local elections. Together with Dominik Kuzmek, she has been the district spokeswoman for the Left in Würzburg since 2020 .

Barrientos has been volunteering in refugee aid for years. She was in charge of refugee work at the Arbeiterwohlfahrt (AWO) and was involved in the "Helferkreis Ochsenfurt" for unaccompanied underage refugees.

As co-editor she publishes books of the banned Kurdish publisher Mezopotamia in the series “Edition Mezopotamya”.

Barrientos is a regular columnist for the platform “Die Freiheitsliebe”.

She is a member of ver.di .

MPs

In the 2017 federal election , Barrientos was elected to the German Bundestag via the Bavarian state list . She is the cultural-political spokeswoman for the left-wing parliamentary group and chairwoman of the committee for culture and media in the German Bundestag. She is also a deputy member of the Finance Committee.

In the run-up to her nomination, Barrientos had prevailed in a fight vote against three competitors. The fight for women's rights and against racism and exclusion motivated them to run for office.

Their political goals include:

  • Culture: empowerment of women in the arts and culture industry, support for self-employed people, social security for artists and cultural workers
  • Equality: Feminist Politics, LGBTI Rights
  • Anti-racism and solidarity with international left-wing struggles, e.g. for an end to the blockade in Cuba

When the AfD demanded that German be anchored in the Basic Law as the national language , Barrientos countered with a speech in Spanish.

Barrientos is the deputy chairman of the Andean States parliamentary group.
