Marianne Schieder (born May 23, 1962 in Schwarzberg , Wernberg-Köblitz ) is a German politician of the SPD party and a fully qualified lawyer . She has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2005, Parliamentary Managing Director of the SPD Bundestag faction since November 2017, and Chairwoman of the Bavarian State Group in the SPD Bundestag faction since December 2019.

Life

Marianne Schieder was born as the eldest of five daughters in the small village of Schwarzberg in the Wernberg-Köblitz market and grew up there on her parents' farm. She still lives in Wernberg-Köblitz today. After high school in 1981 at the Johann Andreas Schmeller High School in Nabburg studied Schieder at the University of Regensburg law . She was the federal chairwoman of the Catholic rural youth movement in Germany (KLJB) and, as the full-time state manager of the KLJB Bavaria, was able to continue her voluntary work in youth work until she was elected to the Bavarian state parliament in 1994. This commitment, but also the experience in the citizens' movement against the planned construction of the WAA in Wackersdorf, brought them to politics. Schieder is Roman Catholic .

Schieder joined the SPD in 1990 . She is chairwoman of the SPD in Wernberg-Köblitz, chairwoman of the SPD sub-district Schwandorf-Cham and is a deputy chairwoman of the SPD district executive committee for Upper Palatinate . From 2009 to 2017 she was a member of the state board and from 2011 to 2017 a member of the presidium of the BayernSPD . From 2001 to 2010 she was district chairwoman of the SPD Schwandorf.

Schieder was a member of the Bavarian State Parliament from 1994 to 2004 , initially in the Agriculture and Legal Committees, later Chairwoman and Deputy Chairwoman of the Committee for Youth, Education and Sport and also spokeswoman for the SPD parliamentary group on education policy. Since 1996 she has been a market councilor in her home town of Wernberg-Köblitz and a member of the district council of the Schwandorf district . From 1996 to April 2014 Schieder was also the second deputy of the district administrator in the Schwandorf district.

Since 2005, Schieder has been a member of the German Bundestag for the Schwandorf constituency , which includes the Schwandorf and Cham districts. In November 2017, Schieder was elected parliamentary manager of the SPD parliamentary group. She is thus a member of the Council of Elders and, at the same time, of the Commission of the Council of Elders for the legal status of MPs and internal affairs of the Bundestag. In December 2019, she was elected chairman of the Bavarian regional group in the SPD parliamentary group. She had held the office of deputy chairwoman since February 2010. Schieder follows Martin Burkert , who left the German Bundestag at the turn of the year.

In the SPD parliamentary group, Schieder works in the working groups on culture and media, local politics, civic engagement, church politics, copyright law and in the AWO parliamentary group. She is also a member of the Parliamentary Groups Rail Transport and Rail Noise. Since March 2015 MdB Schieder has been a member of the advisory board of the German-Czech Discussion Forum, since 2018 a member of the board of trustees of the "Foundation for Flight, Expulsion, Reconciliation" and of the board of trustees of the "Foundation Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe".

Schieder entered the Bundestag via the Bavarian State List .

Political positions and social engagement

Schieder is particularly committed to fair working conditions and fair wages, good early childhood education and equal educational opportunities for all children, regardless of their parents' budget. In addition, the resolute fight against drug-related crime on the German-Czech border is one of her priorities. Ultimately, the consistent promotion of rural areas and the concern for strong and efficient municipalities are also among their concerns.

In addition to her political work, Schieder is involved in numerous clubs , associations and organizations , including in her position as head of the BDKJ children's tent camp Voithenberg ( Furth i. W. ) and in supporting the one-world trade and Unicef .

She is committed to diverse and broad voluntary engagement in the sense of good social cooperation.
