Solčava (German Sulzbach ) is a municipality in the Štajerska region in Slovenia .

geography

The community lies on the upper reaches of the Sann . In the north are the Karawanken with the Olševa (1930 m). In the west and south the valley is bordered by the Steiner Alps (Kamniško-Savinjske Alpe). In the east is the 2062 m high Raduha . A pass road leads over the Paulitschsattel to Bad Eisenkappel ( Carinthia , Austria ).

The entire municipality consists of the four localities:

  • Logarska Dolina (German: Locherstal or Logar Valley )
  • Podolševa (German: Ebersdorf )
  • Robanov Kot (German: market )
  • Solčava, (German: Sulzbach )

537 people live in the entire community. The main town Solčava has 242 inhabitants.

history

The area has been inhabited since the Paleolithic , which is proven by findings in the Potočka zijalka cave . In modern times, around 1000 to 1200, the area was populated up to the heights. Here, at 1327 meters, is Slovenia's highest farm. In the Church of Marija Snežna ( Our Lady of the Snow ) there is a small early Gothic statue of the seated Mary and Child, the Madonna of Solčava, carved out of stone. It is said to date from around 1250. The church with this art treasure is also shown on the coat of arms of the municipality. It was built from 1461 to 1485 and is now a listed building.

As early as 1416, Solčava was mentioned as the official seat of the entire Solčavsko region . The Counts of Cilli (today Celje ) were the lords and from 1456 the area was in the hands of the Habsburgs . 1473 gave Emperor Friedrich III. the entire area of the then founded diocese of Ljubljana .
