The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Ljubljana ( lat. : Archidioecesis Labacensis ; in Slovenian. : Nadškofija Ljubljana ) is an Archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church in Slovenia , based in Ljubljana ( dt. : Laibach ). Together with the suffragan bishops Koper and Novo mesto , it forms the ecclesiastical province of Ljubljana.

history

The Diocese of Laibach was at the suggestion of Emperor Friedrich III. Erected on December 6, 1461 by Pope Pius II . Sigismund von Lamberg was appointed the first bishop . After the collapse of the Habsburg monarchy in 1918, it was renamed the Diocese of Ljubljana . raised to the archbishopric. With the reorganization of the Diocese of Trieste (Triest-Koper) Koper was affiliated as a suffragan Ljubljana and by Pope Paul VI. the ecclesiastical province established on November 22, 1968 . Ljubljana has been the seat of a metropolitan ever since. When the Slovene Church was reorganized in 2006 by Pope Benedict XVI. the bishopric Novo mesto emerged through the assignment of Ljubljana , which continues to belong to the ecclesiastical province of Ljubljana.
