Joachim Egon Prince of Fürstenberg
Joachim Egon Maximilian Friedrich Leo Joseph Maria Hubertus Fürst zu Fürstenberg (born June 28, 1923 at Schloss Grund , Czechoslovakia ; † July 9, 2002 in Donaueschingen ) was a German entrepreneur and head of the Fürstenberg family . Since the death of his uncle Karl Egon V zu Fürstenberg , he appeared in public under the primogeniture title Fürst zu Fürstenberg , which was canceled in 1919 , and was known as "His Highness". His real name was "Prinz zu Fürstenberg".
Career
He was the son of Maximilian Egon zu Fürstenberg (1896–1959) and Wilhelmine Countess von Schönburg-Glauchau (1902–1964). After spending the first years of his childhood at Schloss Grund and in the Fürstenberg Palace in Prague, he moved with his family to Donaueschingen. In 1933 his father took over the overall administration of the Princely Fürstenberg in Donaueschingen.
Joachim Egon zu Fürstenberg attended the boarding school in Salem Castle , the Fürstenberg high school in Donaueschingen , the Jesuit college in St. Blasien in the Black Forest and the business school in Freiburg im Breisgau , where he graduated from high school in 1941. He was then drafted as a soldier and last served as a lieutenant.
After returning from French captivity, he worked in the Princely Fürstenberg administration. Together with his wife, Paula Countess zu Königsegg-Aulendorf and the children, he stayed at Hohenlupfen Castle . When his uncle Karl Egon V. zu Fürstenberg died childless in 1973, he became head of the Fürstenberg family .
In the 1980s, Joachim Egon began to sell the company's inherited cultural assets on a large scale in order to compensate for the economic losses suffered by the family-owned companies and to finance his lavish lifestyle.
Since the early 1990s, he has been gradually handing over entrepreneurial responsibility to his eldest son, Heinrich. The manager Hans-Rüdiger Schewe became the general representative of the company . Joachim Egon Fürst zu Fürstenberg died on July 9, 2002 after a long illness in Donaueschingen.
Marriage and offspring
Joachim Egon Fürst zu Fürstenberg had been married to Paula Countess zu Königsegg-Aulendorf (1926–2019) since June 25, 1947 and had six children:

Honors
Among other things, he was an honorary citizen of Donaueschingen, Heiligenberg , Friedenweiler and Weitra , honorary senator of the University of Konstanz , recipient of the Great Federal Cross of Merit , the Medal of Merit of the State of Baden-Württemberg (1978), the Commander's Cross of the Papal Order of St. Gregory , Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece , Honor and Devotion Grand Cross Bailli of the Sovereign Order of Maltese Knights .
Anecdotes
Joachim Egon Fürst zu Fürstenberg, who was characterized in an obituary as a “baroque connoisseur without scandals”, was considered affable and affable despite being part of the jet set . "Joki" knew no conceit, he drank his beer with everyone. It should have happened that after a long night at the Schützen inn he was greeted by a guest with “Good morning, Your Highness” and countered tiredly: “What do you mean here? Have a drink! "
