Dansk Svømmeunion ( German  "Danish Swimming Union" ) is the umbrella organization for swimming in Denmark . It is based in Farum , a town in the Furesø municipality in the greater Copenhagen area . The Union has been a member of Danmarks Idræts-Forbund (dt. Denmark's Sports Association ) since the beginning and is also one of the founding members of the international swimming umbrella associations FINA (1908) and LEN (1927). The association also works closely with the members of the Nordic Swimming Association .

Under the patronage of Crown Princess Mary , over 136,000 members from 213 associations are united within the Dansk Svømmeunion (as of 2010). The organization is divided into the six sections of swimming , popular sports , water jumping , water polo , synchronized swimming and lifeguarding .

history

From 1896 until the association was founded in 1907, the Danish Swimming Championships were still organized by the Danish Sports Association . The championships henceforth carry out on their own and promote the sport of swimming in Denmark, the lawyer JL Nathansen closed on April 6, 1907 on the initiative three Copenhagen clubs and 300 members of Dansk Svømme- og Livredningsforbund (short: DSLF dt "Danish. Swimming and lifesaving (or lifeguard association) together.

From 1937 until the reunification in 1979, the association consisted of two subdivisions, which were only united by a joint presidium: one for swimming ( Dansk Svømme-Forbund , DSF for short) and one for lifeguarding ( Dansk Livrednings-Forbund , DLF for short ). In 2002 the name of the DSLF was changed to its current name Dansk Svømmeunion .
