Nordic Swimming Association

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Nordic Swimming Federation ( Swedish Nordiska Simförbundet , NSF; Danish and Norwegian Nordisk Svømmeforbund , NSF; English Nordic Swimming Federation Association , NSFA) is a cooperation body of six or seven national swimming federations of the Nordic countries . Its task is to promote swimming in the north; the joint appearance of the associations at international level is also part of this.

All member associations (including associated ones) are, as stipulated in the statutes, members of the European swimming federation LEN and the world swimming federation FINA . An application from the Estonian Swimming Association for regular membership was rejected in 2006; but also as a mere associate member, Estonia has the right to take part in Nordic swimming championships. The place and time of the championships, which are also held for the synchronized swimming , water polo and water jumping disciplines , are determined at an annual congress. The presidency and secretariat of the Nordic Swimming Federation alternate every four years between the member associations (e.g. 2006–2010: Norwegian Swimming Association, 2010–2014: Swedish Swimming Association). The lingua franca within the association are the Scandinavian languages .

The association has been awarding an honorary award since 1989, which includes DKK 10,000 and a present.
