Sundsamband Íslands (SSÍ for short; German  " Swim Association Islands" ; English Icelandic Swimming Association ) is the national umbrella organization for swimming in Iceland , to which around 30 swimming clubs are affiliated. The office of the association is located in the headquarters of the "Sports and Olympic Association of Iceland" ( Íþrótta- og Ólympíusamband Íslands , ÍSÍ) in Reykjavík , next to the Laugardalshöllin sports hall and opposite the Laugardalsvöllur national stadium .

Swimming is possible in most of the communities on the island, especially outside, for example in thermal open air pools . As a result, swimming - based on the number of participants - has become the most popular sport in the country. When the association was founded on February 25, 1951, it came at a time when swimming lessons were made compulsory in the curriculum of Icelandic schools . Since the beginning of the millennium, in addition to the traditional sport of swimming, water polo has also gained popularity. The future focus of the association will also be directed towards the promotion of diving as well as synchronized and open water swimming .

Sundsamband Íslands is a member of the Nordic Swimming Federation , the European Swimming Federation LEN and the World Swimming Federation FINA .
