The crowning glory of his sporting career so far was the German Championships in 2015 in the capital: There were two bronze medals over 200 and 400 m freestyle ( Paul Biedermann and Florian Vogel respectively ) and he won over 400 m medley in 4: 13.28 minutes before Johannes Hintze (4: 16.58) and Kevin Wedel (4: 16.61). In the run-up to the 400 m individual medley he swam a new German record, but was subsequently disqualified for the final due to an alleged substitution error. This decision could neither be clearly proven nor refuted on the basis of television pictures.

At the European Championships in Glasgow in 2018 , he won the gold medal with the mixed relay over 4 × 200 m freestyle.
