The swim team Stadtwerke Elmshorn ( STE ) is a swimming club from the city of Elmshorn ( Schleswig-Holstein ) near Hamburg . The club was founded in 2001 and over the years has developed into one of the most successful clubs in Northern Germany . The swimmers of the club achieved successes especially in open water swimming.

The Union

The swim team Stadtwerke Elmshorn was originally founded in 1963 by swimmers under the name Elmshorner Schwimmclub (ESC). In 1973 a group split off and took the name SV Flipper '73 . Both clubs increased their number of members through better training conditions and brought successful swimmers to light. The better opportunities in competitive sport, in which both clubs made progress, gave rise to founding a starting community as the Elmshorn Swimming Center (SZE) in 1984/1985. This was followed by the construction of an air dome , which further improved the training possibilities.

The ESC founded the SG Elbe back in 1977. Other founding members were VfL Pinneberg , Wedeler TSV and TSV Ellerbek . At that time the SG Elbe was the dominant swimming stronghold in Schleswig-Holstein and was able to assert itself against clubs from larger cities.

In the autumn of 2001, the Elmshorn swimming center left the SG Elbe, as the opportunity arose to form a training community again with the EMTV and a team in the top area. For this reason, trainers could be financed and bottlenecks in the use of the water surface could be reduced. The level of the swimming performance standard in Elmshorn has been improved. After the merger, the club was named Swim-Team Elmshorn . In 2013 the name became Swim-Team Stadtwerke Elmshorn . This should clarify the cooperation between the association and Stadtwerke Elmshorn and recognize their longstanding support.

Trainer

The swim team Stadtwerke Elmshorn currently employs four trainers: Christa Harms, Anne Borinski and Jörg Freyher. Harms (* 1939) started working in Elmshorn as early as 1975 and is active in the field of young talent, the support groups (FG). She has a B license . Anne Borinski (* 1980) came to Elmshorn from the Hamburg Olympic Training Center in 2012 and trains the talent development groups (TF) and supports the work in the performance groups. She also has a B license and was a successful swimmer herself. Jörg Freyher (* 1973) came to STE in 2010 and previously worked as a regional trainer for the Hamburg Swimming Association. He trained the TF groups and in the summer of 2012 took over the performance groups (LG) from Bernd Berkhahn, who moved to SC Magdeburg . Freyher has the A license and is responsible for the organizational process in the entire competition area.

Training groups

The STE currently includes nine performance-oriented training groups. The groups Nemo and Pinguin are for 7–8 and 7–9 year olds, respectively. Two units per week are planned here. In FG 3 and 2, the 8-10 year olds train up to three times a week. FG 1 is for the 8-11 year olds, who also train three times a week with Christa Harms. Anne looks after TF 2 and 1. TF 2 is intended for 9-12 year olds and TF 1 for 10-12 year olds. The younger swimmers train four times a week and the older swimmers at least five times. In addition, 30 minutes of land training is carried out before each unit. The groups for the older and strongest swimmers are LG 2 and 1. Both groups train at least seven times a week and have 30 minutes of land and twice a week strength training before each session. In addition, morning training takes place twice a week. The 12-14 year olds swim in LG 2 and everyone aged 15 and over in LG 1.
