Vipa Bernhardt
Vipa Bernhardt (born September 20, 1982 in Riyadh ) is a German swimming athlete .
Vipa Bernhardt starts for SG Frankfurt and belongs to the B-team of the DSV. The breast specialist is trained in Germany by Jörg Bügner, previously by Stefan Döbler, and in the USA by Gregg Troy. Bernhardt made her international debut at the 2000 European Short Course Championships, where she was seventh in the 100 m and 200 m chest. At the 2003 World Championships, she reached the B final, which she won and ended up ninth in the 100 m breaststroke. In 2004 she qualified for the Olympic Summer Games in Athens , where she was 13th in the 100 m breaststroke. The 2005 Universiade was Bernhardt's last major event to date . There the swimmer was fifth in the 100 m chest, seventh in the 200 m individual medley and eighth in the 50 m chest. At the national level, Bernhardt won the 100 and 200 m breaststroke titles at the Short Course DM 2000. Over 200 m breasts, she repeated the title win the following year. At the German Swimming Championships in 2005 , she won the 100 m breaststroke title, and a year later over 200 m breaststroke.
Vipa Bernhardt became known to a wider public in the run-up to the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing when she wanted to fight for her starting place in court. Bernhardt was only third in the German championships over 200 m breaststroke. Anne Poleska , who later accused Bernhardt of having taken part in races of the Coral Springs Swim Club , her university team in the USA, against the rules of the DSV, landed in front of her on the second place qualifying for the start . Thereupon the regional court of Kassel ordered in an urgent procedure by means of an injunction to nominate Bernhardt for the games. However, after Poleska declared on oath that she had never competed against the rules of the DSV, Bernhardt withdrew her objection.
