Matthias Fahrig (born December 15, 1985 in Lutherstadt Wittenberg ) is a German gymnast .
Fahrig has been doing gymnastics since he was eight. From 1993 he went to the sports school in Halle (Saale) . His greatest successes so far include 2nd place at the 2004 World Cup in Stuttgart , 8th place with the team at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and the European Championship title in the team all- around and on the ground at the European Championships in Birmingham 2010.
After Fahrig at the European Championships in 2009 in Milan on jump bronze and the ground behind Hambüchen won the silver medal, he secured in Birmingham in 2010 his first European title on the ground and second place at the jump.
In July 2010, the World Gymnastics Federation (FIG) named the double twist piked with one and a half screws after its inventor Fahrig. Fahrig first presented the element at the 2010 Japan Cup.
Fahrig is currently training to become a sports and fitness clerk .
