Planning and awarding

On November 19, 2011 State Secretary Thomas Härtel , DTB President Rainer Brechtken and BTFB President Frank Ebel announced that the International German Gymnastics Festival 2017 will take place in Berlin. Berlin was the only applicant city and, after 1861, 1968, 1987 and 2005, it is hosting the world's largest competitive and popular sports event for the fifth time. At the beginning of January 2015 it was announced that the gymnastics festival will take place from June 3 to 10, 2017. The organizing committee had started its work two and a half years earlier.

Supporting program

Several festive events took place as part of the gymnastics festival. On Saturday, June 3, 2017, the international gymnastics festival was officially opened with a ceremony in front of around 400 invited guests from politics, society and sport in the AXICA congress and conference center in the DZ BANK. The reception was followed by a traditional parade on Straße des 17. Juni with around 15,000 gymnasts from 22 regional associations. This ended with the official opening ceremony on the stage at the Brandenburg Gate , where a diverse show program was organized for the visitors. Olympic gymnast Andreas Toba made his comeback on the pommel horse after a nine-month break due to a torn cruciate ligament in Rio de Janeiro .

In addition to various gymnastics shows by amateur and competitive athletes and a trade fair on gymnastics at the Berlin Exhibition Center , a stadium gala with over 6,000 participants took place in the Olympiastadion Berlin on June 6, 2017. The gala was attended by 55,000 spectators, Chancellor Angela Merkel gave a speech and the former gymnastics world champion Eberhard Gienger landed precisely in the arena with his 5192nd jump from a height of 1000 meters with the parachute. The high bar Olympic champion Fabian Hambüchen was bid farewell to his international career after 14 years at the event.

Championships

Various championships were held as part of the gymnastics festival, including the German championships and youth championships in apparatus gymnastics .

German championships in apparatus gymnastics women

Elisabeth Seitz ( MTV Stuttgart ) achieved her sixth all-around title at the German Championship with 0.1 points ahead of Pauline Schäfer (TUS Chemnitz-Altendorf), while Kim Bui (MTV Stuttgart) came in third . Seitz was also able to secure her third title on the balance beam and the sixth title on the uneven bars (and third in a row). On the balance beam, she replaced Pauline Schäfer, who had previously won three titles in a row on this device. Schäfer, however, secured the second title in a row on the ground, as did Pauline Tratz ( TSV Rintheim ) on the jump.

German championships in apparatus gymnastics male

After the career end of the multiple winner Fabian Hambüchen (2005 to 2009 and 2012 to 2015) and the injury of the previous year's winner Andreas Toba at the 2016 Summer Olympics , a new German all- around champion was sought, because the all- around champion of 2010, Marcel Nguyen , only competed rings and bars on his special equipment , in which he was able to win his seventh title at these championships.

Lukas Dauser ( TSV Unterhaching ) won the all- around competition with 0.05 points ahead of his Berlin training colleague Philipp Herder ( SC Berlin ) and thus achieved his second title after the gold medal on bars last year. Herder, however, secured his first individual title with the gold medal on the floor. Third in the all- around event was Ivan Rittschik ( KTV Chemnitz ), who also achieved his second title on the pommel horse . At his first German Senior Championships, Nick Klessing ( SV Halle ) prevailed against the competition on the vault and took fourth place in the all- around competition . Felix Pohl ( VfL Kirchheim unter Teck ) also achieved his first individual title on the horizontal bar . Dauser injured his knee while exercising on the rings during the device finals and then fell out with a cruciate ligament rupture for several months .

German youth championships in apparatus gymnastics, male, age group 12

The age group 12 (born in 2005) was dominated by Marc Plieninger ( MTV Stuttgart ). His lead of over 2.5 points in the compulsory competition , in which in addition to the classic six pieces of equipment, exercises on the mushroom and a second jump must be performed, he built on almost 7 points compared to that, primarily through highly rated exercises on the ground and on the rings Second placed Lorenz Steckel ( SSC Karlsruhe ). Third place went to Niklas Eckhard (SGK Bad Homburg), who was still occupied by Timo Eder ( MTV Ludwigsburg ) after the compulsory exercises . No device finals are held in this age group. Apart from the jump, where Eckhard had the highest number of points, Plieninger was able to achieve the highest number of points on all devices.

In 2017, the previous year's duels between Pascal Brendel ( Eintracht Frankfurt ) and Willi Leonhard Binder ( SC Cottbus Turnen) for the German championship title were repeated . While Brendel won the championship title in age group 12 before Binder in 2015, Binder took over Brendel the following year. In the year of the gymnastics festival, Brendel was able to overtake his competitor on the last device and thus secured his second German championship title in the all-around competition, as well as the gold medals on the horse, parallel bars and horizontal bar. Third place in the all-around competition was taken by Nils Matache from SC Berlin , and Moritz Bulka ( SV Halle , brother of Maximilian Braun ) from 2004 , with 9th place, was the best. On the ground, Eliah Beckenbach ( KTG Heidelberg ) secured the title in the device finals, and Binder won the championship title on the rings and on the jump.

The winner's podium for age groups 15 and 16 this year was completely occupied by Turner from the older class 2001, who were not able to place there in the same age group last year. Niklas Patrick Neuhäusel ( TV Heubach ) won just ahead of Tom Schultze ( SC Cottbus ) and also took first place on the ground, while Schultze was able to secure the individual title on the vault. Third in the all-around event was Karl Ole Gäbler from SC Berlin , who also won the gold medal on the floor.
