For men, Toba has competed nationally in the performance area since 2009 and moved up to the national team. At the German championships of the year, he finished sixth in the all-around competition, and seventh a year later. In 2011 he won the first national medal with bronze on the horizontal bar and missed further medals in fourth place in the all-around, parallel bars and pommel horse . In 2012 he again missed this as fourth in the all-around event, but was runner-up on the horizontal bar and on the rings and third on the pommel horse. He also competed in the first important international men's competitions and achieved fifth place on the rings at the Challenge Cup in Doha . In the national qualification for the 2012 Olympic Games in London , Toba was fourth and qualified for the Games , where he reached seventh place with the team. Toba, who won the German championship title in the all-around competition, managed to qualify again for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro . In qualifying there for the team final together with Andreas Bretschneider , Lukas Dauser , Fabian Hambüchen and Marcel Nguyen , however, he tore a cruciate ligament during his floor exercise after the first lane . Despite the injury, he still completed his exercise on the pommel horse, which he completed with the highest score in the German quartet (14.233 points). The German team qualified with 8th place for the final, in which he could no longer compete due to the aforementioned injury.

On November 17, 2016, Andreas Toba received the audience award at the Bambi Awards . On December 10, 2016, he was awarded the Manfred von Richthofen Solidarity Prize at the Champions Gala of the Berlin Athlete of the Year election.
