The Kunstturngemeinschaft Heidelberg e. V. (KTG) is a gymnastics club from Heidelberg . The club is a member of the German Gymnastics League and does gymnastics in the Bundesliga.

history

In 1991 the KTG Heidelberg was founded through the merger of the three parent clubs "Heidelberger Turnverein 1846", "SG Heidelberg-Kirchheim" and "TSV Heidelberg-Pfaffengrund". These three clubs were the leading clubs for male gymnastics in the university town in the 1970s and 1980s . Later the "TB Rohrbach" was added.

In the beginning, the KTG was primarily intended for young gymnasts in the age group. These should be able to appear as Heidelberg teams without complicated starting pass regulations in all age groups. They should also represent Heidelberg at individual championships.

In the active area, at the time the KTG was founded, two teams were active in the league operations of the Badischer Turnerbund , which started as TG Heidelberg I and II. In 1993 the TG Heidelberg I qualified as champions of the Baden Oberliga for the promotion competition to the regional league in Rottweil , but failed. It was not until the following year, 1994, that KTG Heidelberg I was promoted to the regional league.

In December 1996 the KTG Heidelberg I was promoted to the 2. Kunstturn-Bundesliga, namely - due to overcrowding in the southern season - in the northern group. In 1997 the KTG strengthened itself with the Ukrainian talent Oleksandr Beresch , who performed outstandingly in Heidelberg in the 1997 season. In the two following years Serhij Wjalzew went to the equipment for KTG after EnBW-KTV Stuttgart had lured his compatriot Beresch into the first division.

In 2000, the Hungarian Miklòs Pànczèl ended his gymnastics career with a number of excellent competitions for the KTG. Sergej Vjalzev, who had meanwhile matured into one of the best ring gymnasts in the world, took his place for two more league rounds. With his support, the KTG was promoted to the 1st Bundesliga in 2002. In the following years Dan Potra and Flavius Koczi (both Romania) belonged to the KTG team. So far, the starts in the 1st Art Gymnastics Bundesliga have been one-year guest appearances. Most recently, KTG Heidelberg performed in the first division in the 2015 season with the support of the long-standing German national gymnast Matthias Fahrig and the Norwegian master Stian Skjerahaug .

The KTG Heidelberg is one of the best teams in Germany. The club feels obliged to its offspring and is one of the main pillars of talent development in Baden-Württemberg in the base system of the Baden and Swabian Gymnastics Federation. The Heidelberg gymnastics center also bears the title “ DTB Turn Talent School”.
