European Gymnastics Championships 2010

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 2010 European Gymnastics Championships took place from April 21st to May 2nd in the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham .
Due to the hindrances in European air traffic caused by the eruption of the Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajökull , the men's European championships started one day later than planned. The men's teams from Russia , Ukraine and Belarus did not reach the venue on time due to visa problems. The gymnasts from Georgia and Israel were also absent .
For the first time in the history of the European championships, the German team was able to secure the title in the all-around competition and Marcel Nguyen also won the first individual medal at the European championships. On the horizontal bar, Vlasios Maras became European champion for the fifth time after 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2009 and Yann Cucherat was also able to successfully defend his European Championship title from 2009 on the parallel bars.
