Older forms of the place name are Gotkendorf , Gotkendorff , Gottkendorf , Gotickendorf and Göttchendorff . Until 1804, the farmers of the village of Göttchendorf were obliged to do manual and clamping services at Gut Behlenhof. On February 3, 1807, Napoleon stayed in Gotkendorf .

The parish of the village comprised an area of 1986 acres around 1858 , and there were 36 houses on it.

Until 1945 Göttchendorf belonged to the district of Prussian Holland in the administrative district of Königsberg in the province of East Prussia of the German Empire .

Towards the end of World War II , the region was occupied by the Red Army in January 1945 . In the summer of 1945, the Soviet occupation forces placed the district together with the southern half of East Prussia and all of West Prussia under Polish administration. The Poles introduced the place name Godkowo for Göttchendorf . Unless the German villagers had fled, they were subsequently expelled from Göttchendorf by the local Polish administrative authorities .
