The fourth individual gymnastics European championships took place from April 4 to 10, 2011 in Berlin . The venue was the Max-Schmeling-Halle in the Prenzlauer Berg district of the Pankow district , which can hold around 6000 spectators .

The German capital hosted the continental title fights for the first time after four German cities had already hosted four German cities: Frankfurt am Main ( 1955 ), Leipzig ( 1961 ), Essen ( 1979 ) and Bremen ( 2000 ).

Russia became the most successful nation with a total of eight medals and three titles. The most successful athletes were Philipp Boy (Germany), Flavius ​​Koczi (Romania) and Epke Zonderland (Netherlands), each with a gold and a silver medal. In the women's category, the Russian Anna Dementjewa and the Romanian Sandra Izbașa each won two gold medals.

281 athletes from 39 countries registered for the European Championships. 6 men and 4 women could start each country. In fact, 234 athletes (148 men, 85 women) took part in the competitions.

Fabian Hambüchen was absent after an operation on the Achilles tendon that was torn in January 2011, Matthias Fahrig was absent because of the military service that was taking place in the Bundeswehr.

Linda Stämpfli prevailed against junior Nadia Baeriswyl in an internal elimination match .
