Vanessa Ferrari (born November 10, 1990 in Orzinuovi ( BS )) is an Italian gymnast .

Career

Vanessa Ferrari achieved her first success at the 2004 Junior World Championships, where she won the silver medal in the all-around with a score of 36,525. She also won two bronze medals here, once with the team and once on the balance beam with a score of 9,175.

As a junior, Ferrari competed in the Youth Olympics in Italy and in the Mediterranean Games 2005 in Almería , Spain . There she won gold medals in all three competitions.

In 2006, Italy surprisingly won the gold medal with Ferrari in the team competition at the European Championships in Volos , just a tenth of a point ahead of the defending champions from Romania . Although there was no actual all-around event, Ferrari's combined score was the highest in the competition. Vanessa Ferrari also won the silver medal on the ground with 15,450 points, ahead of the Olympic champion Cătălina Ponor .

Ferrari won the all- around world title in October 2006 ahead of Jana Bieger ( USA ) and Sandra Izbaşa ( Romania ) with a combined score of 61,025. In addition, she was third on the floor and in the parallels. After this triumph at the latest, she suddenly became known all over Italy, because never before has an Italian gymnast been able to win the all-round competition at world championships.

At the European Championships in Amsterdam in 2007 , she won gold in both the all-around and on the ground. Of course, she also became the first Italian woman who officially (since only one team competition was held in Volos 2006) all-around gold at European championships. At the World Championships in Stuttgart 2007 she was third in the all-around competition.

At the European Championships in Milan in 2009 , she won the silver medal on the floor behind Britain's Elizabeth Tweddle .

At the European Championships in Brussels in 2012 , the sport soldier won the bronze medal in the team competition and came fourth on the ground. The same placement on the ground was achieved at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London - although she achieved the same number of points in the final as the third-placed.

In 2013 she won the silver medal on the ground at the World Championships in Antwerp, after having previously been unable to participate in the European Championships due to injury.

In 2014 Vanessa Ferrari won the gold medal on the ground at the 2014 European Championships in Sofia. Ferrari took part in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, where she finished fourth behind Amy Tinkler in the floor finals.
