Nelli Vladimirovna Kim ( Russian : Нелли Владимировна Ким ; born July 29, 1957 in Shurab , Tajik SSR ) is a former Soviet gymnast . She was a five-time Olympic champion .

Life

Kim is the daughter of a Korean father ( Korjo-Saram ) and a Russian mother. At the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal , she took part in six competitions and won four medals. She won the individual competitions in the horse jump and on the ground, plus the silver medal in the individual all-around. With the Soviet team, she also won the team all-around competition. As the first gymnast in Olympic history, she received a rating of 10.0 in the horse jump and on the floor.

Four years later at the Summer Olympics in Moscow she again won the competition on the ground (together with the Romanian Nadia Comăneci ) and the team all-around competition.

Kim was also a five-time world champion. She won a total of eleven medals at gymnastics world championships between 1974 and 1979 .

She has lived in the United States since 1996 . In 1999 Kim was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame .
