Bridget Elizabeth Sloan (born June 23, 1992 in Cincinnati , Ohio ) is an American gymnast . She is the all-around world champion of 2009. She also won silver with the US team at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

Life

Bridget Sloan was born in Cincinnati on June 23, 1992. She now lives in Pittsboro , Indiana with her parents and three siblings . She trains in Indianapolis , where she started gymnastics at the age of four.

In the pre-Olympic year 2007 Sloan was surprisingly fifth in the all-around and second on the ground at the American Championships . As a result, she traveled to the World Championships in Stuttgart as a substitute gymnast , but was not used here. In the test competition Good Luck Beijing for the Olympic Games in Beijing, she was able to achieve a third place in the all-around competition in the same year.

In March 2008, she sustained a meniscus injury while doing gymnastics on the jump during a competition in Italy , but recovered in time to start at the Olympic Games. In Beijing, Sloan won a silver medal in the team all-around event and was seventh on the vault .

Unlike her teammates from the Olympic team, Sloan also started on all equipment at the American Championships in 2009. She became American champion on the floor, on the uneven bars and in all-around, as well as runner-up on the jump. Only on the balance beam did she not reach the podium with a fifth place. At the 2009 World Championships in London, Sloan won the all-around competition. After three apparatuses still behind Rebecca Bross , Sloan won the competition with her appearance on the ground without major mistakes. In the uneven bars final, Sloan took sixth place.
