Lyudmila Ivanovna Turishcheva ( Russian Людмила Ивановна Турищева , scientific transliteration Lyudmila Ivanovna Turiščeva ; born October 7, 1952 in Grozny ) is a former Soviet gymnast . She was a four-time Olympic champion, world and European champion.

In 1972 she won the Olympic eight- round competition in Munich, in 1970 and 1974 she became world champion, in 1971 and 1973 European champion, both in all-around competitions, plus many victories in individual disciplines (horse, uneven bars, balance beam and, above all, in floor exercise, which was her strength). Compared to Olga Korbut , she regularly proved to be superior, in the Olympic all-around competition in Munich in 1972 she defeated Karin Janz from the GDR, who placed second . Until 1975 she remained unbeaten in the all-around competition.

Only Nadia Comăneci had to admit defeat in the all-around at the European Championships in 1975 and at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal , where she was able to defeat her young rival both times in the floor exercise. She is married to Valery Borsow , the double Olympic champion over 100 and 200 meters from Munich, with whom she has a daughter. Since 1978 she has been working as a trainer in Kiev .

In 1998 Lyudmila Turishcheva was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame .
