Gina Gogean (* 9. September 1978 in Câmpuri ) is a former Romanian gymnast . She won 30 medals at Olympic Games, World and European Championships.

She started gymnastics at the age of six. In 1992 Gogean first took part in the World Championships , where she finished seventh in the horse jump. At the European Championships in the same year she became European champion on the ground. She also won silver in jumping and in all-around competitions. The sporting highlight of the year, however, was the Olympic Games in Barcelona. Gogean won the silver medal with the Romanian team. In the all-around competition she was sixth and fifth in the horse jump. Actually, Gogean should not have participated in the Olympic Games because the minimum age was 15 years. However, the year of her birth was manipulated by the Romanian delegation.

At the 1993 World Championships , Gogean won world championship medals for the first time. In the all-around competition and on the ground she was second, behind the American Shannon Miller , and on the balance beam she won bronze.

The 1994 European Championships in Stockholm became Gogean's most successful European Championships. She won gold with the team, in all-around competitions and on the balance beam. There was also bronze on the floor and fourth place in the jump. At the world championships in the same year, Gogean became world champion for the first time. She won the jumping and team titles, as well as bronze on the ground.

In 1995 she was able to continue her successful streak. At the World Championships in Japan, she won gold with the team and on the ground and bronze in the horse jump. In 1996 she won the ground and jump titles at the World Championships .

At the European Championships in 1996 , Gogean won three medals, gold with the team and silver on the balance beam and the jump. In the same year she was at the Olympic Games in Atlanta behind the Ukrainian Lilija Podkopajewa second in the all-around and third with the team, on the balance beam and in the jump.

In 1997 Gogean was three-time world champion at the World Championships, with the team, on the floor and on the balance beam, and also third in the jump and fourth in the all-around competition. In 1998 she ended her competitive sports career after the World Cup final.

Gogean has worked as a trainer, commentator, and referee, and was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 2013 .
