Alexandra Rose "Aly" Raisman (born May 25, 1994 in Needham , Massachusetts ) is an American gymnast . In 2012 she won two gold medals at the Summer Olympics .

Career

Raisman was born the first of four children to the married couple Lynn and Rick Raisman. The family is of Jewish faith. Her mother was a gymnast herself, and from a young age Raisman began to achieve outstanding success in the same sport. After her junior career, she switched to the adult sector in 2010 and, in addition to podium places in tournaments such as the Visa Championships , the Pacific Rim Championships and the American Cup, she also won the silver medal in the team competition at the 2010 World Gymnastics Championships in Rotterdam . A year later she won team gold at the 2011 World Cup in Tokyo .

2012 Summer Olympics

In 2012 Raisman won silver at the American Cup in the all-around discipline and qualified for a place in the US gymnastics team for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London , where he won the team gold medal. She did the last and most important exercise on the floor . She also won the gold medal in floor exercise as well as the bronze medal on the balance beam.
With two golds and one bronze she was the most successful gymnast in the games. Her home club is Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club in Burlington, Massachusetts .

In 2013 she took part in the American dance show Dancing with the Stars and took 4th place with her dance partner Mark Ballas.

In 2015 she made a comeback in gymnastics and qualified for the World Championships in Glasgow. There she won the gold medal in the team all-around competition.

2016 Summer Olympics

At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Aly Raisman won the gold medal in the team all-around as well as two silver medals in the individual all- around and on the ground, behind her US team-mate Simone Biles .

Abuse in the US gymnastics team

In November 2017, as part of the #MeToo campaign , 23-year-old Raisman made public that she had been abused for four Olympic cycles by the former team doctor of the American gymnastics teams, Larry Nassar .

She agreed with the statements of more than 140 women, including Jamie Dantzscher , McKayla Maroney (mid-October 2017), Gabrielle Douglas (November 2017) and Simone Biles (January 2018). Raisman also called for a rethinking of the structure of USA Gymnastics , and Steve Penney, the association's president, resigned after the " Nassar scandal " became known.
