The 43rd Gymnastics World Championships in apparatus gymnastics took place from October 7th to 16th, 2011 in the Japanese city of Tokyo . For the women who have been allowed to participate since 1934, it was the 33rd title fights. The competitions were held in the Tōkyō Taiikukan . These World Championships were the first direct qualifications for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London .

Despite the tense situation due to the Tōhoku earthquake and the resulting nuclear disaster in Fukushima , the Executive Committee of the FIG Gymnastics Federation, in consultation with the World Health Organization , decided to hold the World Championships in Tokyo. Previously, concerns about the alignment were expressed by several national associations.
