Philipp Boy (born July 23, 1987 in Schwedt / Oder ) is a former German gymnast . His greatest successes in gymnastics were the silver medals in the all-around competition at the 2010 and 2011 World Gymnastics Championships .

Philipp Boy grew up in the Uckermark.

He began his gymnastics career at TSV Blau Weiß 65 Schwedt under the direction of Manfred Paschke. Most recently, Karsten Oelsch was his coach at SC Cottbus .

Boy dropped out of his bank apprenticeship in 2009 to concentrate solely on gymnastics. He belonged to the sports promotion group of the Bundeswehr.

Career

In 2007 Boy won the bronze medal in the team final at the Gymnastics World Championships in Stuttgart and reached 18th place in the all- around final.

At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing , he finished fourth in the team final. At the German Championships in 2009 Boy won the gold medal on the ground, he came second on the horse and achieved third place in the all-around final with 86,300 points. At the 2010 European Championships in Birmingham, Boy and the German team won the gold medal in the team final with 266,150 points and together with Fabian Hambüchen the bronze medal in the horizontal bar final.

Boy achieved his final international breakthrough at the 2010 World Championships in Rotterdam. After winning the bronze medal behind China and Japan in the team competition together with Fabian Hambüchen , Thomas Taranu, Eugen Spiridonov , Sebastian Krimmer and Matthias Fahrig , he achieved his first individual medal with the silver medal in the all- around individual behind the Japanese Kōhei Uchimura with 90.048 points World championships. In the horizontal bar final he finished fourth behind Fabian Hambüchen. In addition, Boy was awarded the Longines Prize for Elegance 2010 as the most elegant gymnast at the World Cup .

At the 2011 European Championships in Berlin, he succeeded Fabian Hambüchen and won the gold medal in the all- around competition ahead of Romanian Flavius ​​Koczi and Daniel Purvis (Great Britain) and Mykola Kuksenkow (Ukraine) tied on points . On the horizontal bar he won the silver medal.

At the 2011 World Championships he was second in the all-around competition. At the 2012 Summer Olympics , he was unable to build on earlier successes due to health problems. In the all-around qualification he did not reach a device finale and only finished 17th. But since his compatriots Fabian Hambüchen and Marcel Nguyen were ahead of him in the qualification, he had to forego a participation according to a regulation that stipulates a maximum of two final starters per country. In contrast to Hambüchen, Boy did not want to do without taking part in international competitions and the European championship in the Olympic year. In retrospect, he admitted incorrect preparation for the Olympic Games and months of problems on the horizontal bar.

On December 1, 2012, he resigned from gymnastics. The reason he named mental problems after a fall on the horizontal bar a year earlier. In addition, he recently had to struggle with numerous injuries.

TV show participation

In 2016 Boy appeared in the TV show Dance Dance Dance on RTL with Bene Mayr as a dance partner. In the final they won against Aneta Sablik and Menderes Bağcı .

Since January 30, 2018 Boy took part in the third season of the competition show Eternal Heroes . Here he reached second place behind Sascha Klein .

On June 3, 2018, Boy took part in the Team Ninja Warrior Promi Special competition show, where he formed the “Sporthelden” team with Tanja Szewczenko , Jessica Paszka and Björn Otto , which won the competition. As part of the RTL Spendenmarathon , he made it to the finals of the RTL Ninja Warrior Germany Promi Special in November 2018 and November 2019 and came in second in both programs. He also reached the finals in the regular season in 2019.
