Benedikt Mayr (born March 14, 1989 ) is a German freestyle skier .

Benedikt Mayr starts for TSV Unterhaching . He started alpine skiing at the age of three, his parents - his father is Austrian - owns a hut in the Zillertal . At first he operated the mogul slope version of the sport. After tearing his cruciate ligament at the age of 16 , he switched to slopestyle after recovering . In 2008, like again in 2010, he was voted “Freeskier of the Year” for the entire German-speaking region. At the 2011 World Championships in Park City , he was 41st and thus third from last of the placed starters, in 2013 he was 25th of the World Championships in Myrkdalen . In general, Mayr does not take part in the competitions organized by the FIS, but in order to qualify for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , he competed in the World Cup several times in the 2013/14 season. He contested his first race in 2013 in Copper Mountain , where he finished 14th. It was also his best position in the series to date.

Mayr supposedly qualified very early for the Olympic Games in Sochi. The specification of the international association was a placement among the top 30 of the overall ranking, which Mayr held throughout the year. Only after an objectively bad rating at the last pre-Olympic competition in Gstaad did he slip out of this rating as 36th. Germany also lost its quota position due to the poor placement of the Germans. Mayr was now on the replacement list, on which he was with the same number of points as two other athletes. After another freestyler of this trio was nominated for the games, the German federation lodged a protest, which was granted. Mayr then received one of the free quota places like his two competitors.

Trivia

In 2016 Mayr appeared in the TV show Dance Dance Dance on RTL with Philipp Boy as a dance partner.
