The dipteronia sinensis ( Dipteronia sinensis ) is a deciduous tree species in the only two types of the type comprising dipteronia . This genus is now in the family of the soap tree plants classified (Sapindaceae); earlier it was placed in the maple family (Aceraceae). The dipterony comes from China and is rarely cultivated in Central Europe .

description

The dipteronia grows as a deciduous tree and reaches heights of a good 10–16 meters; however, in Central Europe it often grows shrubby and stays lower. The relatively smooth, brown bark is slightly furrowed.

The opposite, stalked leaves are unpaired pinnate and up to 40–50 cm long. The short stalked, pointed 11 to 15 leaflets are dark green and roughly serrate. The one closest to the leaf base, sometimes also the second pair of leaflets, is sometimes lobed to divided or two to three-fold, the normal leaflets are ovate to lanceolate or obovate. The leaf spindle is reddish, as is the fresh leaves.

The five-fold blooms with double bloom are very small and yellow-whitish, with five small sepals and five petals each . They are functionally either male or female. The two-chamber, hairy ovary is upper constant, the stylus is short with a two-lobed stigma . The male flowers have 8 stamens and a pistillode. There is one cup-shaped disc .

The two-part split fruits stand in loose panicles about 25 cm in size . The individual wing nuts (mericarpies), which are initially reddish and brown when ripe, are enclosed by an almost circular wing edge; they are about 2.5 by 2.5 inches; the fruit without wing edge is about 5 mm in size.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 18.

Distribution and location

The dipterony is native to China . It grows in mixed forests or on the edge of the forest at altitudes between 1000 and 2400 meters above sea level in southeastern Gansu , northern Guizhou , southwestern Henan , western Hubei , Hunan , Shaanxi , southern Shanxi and eastern Sichuan .

In other parts of the world, dipteronia is found mainly in botanical gardens ; it is seldom planted as an ornamental tree in parks and gardens.

Systematics

The first description by the English botanist Daniel Oliver was published in 1889.

A synonym is Acer dielsii H.Lév. ; since the species has also been further subdivided by some botanists, there are also the following synonyms:

  • Dipteronia sinensis var. Taipeiensis W.P.Fang & MYFang
  • Dipteronia sinensis f. taipaiensis (WPFang & MYFang) AEMurray
