The third individual gymnastics European championships took place from March 29 to April 5, 2009 in Milan .

In the course of the competitions, Fabian Hambüchen succeeded on April 4th as the first German in the 54-year European Championship history to win gold in the all-around competition. A similar success was achieved for Ariella Kaeslin , who was the first Swiss woman to win an international medal with bronze in the all- around event and gold on the jumping horse.
