Gabriela Drăgoi

Gabriela "Gabi" Drăgoi (born August 28, 1992 in Buzău , Buzău County ) is a Romanian gymnast .

Career

Drăgoi comes from a poor family from Focşănei and grew up with four older siblings and no father. She started gymnastics at the age of five with CSȘ Buzău under the guidance of Gabriela Robu . Later she was looked after in Deva by national coach Valerian Nicolae Forminte . She had her first big appearance in the Romanian national team at the European Gymnastics Championships in 2008 , where Romania won the title in the team competition. In 2008 she was also national champion on the balance beam.

Drăgoi won the bronze medal in the team competition with the Romanian national team at the 2008 Olympic Games and took 5th place on the balance beam. She could not qualify for any other device finals. Because of a fatigue fracture that she suffered in her left lower leg, she was only able to exercise to a limited extent in the period that followed and only took part in competitions on the balance beam and uneven bars until her operation in December 2009 . In 2009, however, Drăgoi won bronze on the balance beam at the European Championships as well as at the Romanian National Championships despite the injury . At the Gymnastics World Championships in 2009 she was eliminated from both devices in the qualification, at the Gymnastics World Championships in 2010 she finished 4th with Romania in the team competition.

Gabriela Drăgoi is 1.46 m tall and her competition weight is 37 kg.

Awards

In 2008 Gabriela Drăgoi initially received the Order of Merit "Meritul sportiv" III from President Traian Băsescu . Class, after her Olympic medal in August of the same year with the Order of Merit "Meritul sportiv" III. Class to be awarded two stripes. In 2008 and 2009 she was voted the best female athlete of the year in Buzau County.
