Ariella Kaeslin (born October 11, 1987 in Lucerne ) is a former Swiss gymnast .

Career

Kaeslin grew up in Meggen and was accepted into the national team in 2001. She started for the BTV Luzern and trained at the sports school in Magglingen under the direction of Zoltan Jordanov. She was part of the Swiss sports promotion program and a student at the Alpenstrasse grammar school .

Athletic career

Kaeslin is multiple Swiss champion in individual all-around, team competition and in the individual disciplines. In addition, since 2002 she has participated in four European and three world championships. In 2007 she won the all-around at the Swiss Federal Gymnastics Festival in Frauenfeld. At the Summer Olympics in Beijing , she reached fifth place in the jump and 18th place in the all-around final.

At the European Championships in Milan in 2009 , Kaeslin was the first Swiss gymnast to win a medal in an international competition with bronze in the all-around competition. The following day, she won the gold medal on the jumping horse in the apparatus finals and thus became the first Swiss female gymnastics champion. At the 2009 World Championships in London, after finishing eighth in the all-around event, she won silver on the jumping horse and became the first Swiss medalist at a World Championship. At the 2011 European Championships in Berlin, she again won a bronze medal in jumping horses, her favorite discipline. Rather surprisingly, she reached the final on the balance beam and took 5th place. In the all-around competition she reached rank 8.

On July 11, 2011 at the age of 23, a year before the Olympic Games in London , she announced her retirement from top-class sport. The reasons she cited were the great hardships and hardships that sport brings with it.

Kaeslin has been a member of the See-Club Luzern rowing club since March 2012 . At the Swiss Championships on the Rotsee on July 7th, 2013 she finished sixth in a double scull alongside Claudia Sutter.
