Federal Gymnastics Festival
The Swiss Federal Gymnastics Festival (ETF) ( French Fête fédérale de gymnastique , Italian Festa Federale di ginnastica , Romansh Festa federala da gimnastica ) is the largest multi-sport sporting event in Switzerland . The first Federal Gymnastics Festival was held on April 24, 1832 in Aarau to establish the Swiss Gymnastics Federation .
Event cycle
From 1832 to 1865 the Swiss gymnastics group held their festivals every year. From 1867 the Federal Gymnastics Festival took place irregularly until a 2-year cycle was introduced in 1874 and a 3-year cycle from 1888. Between 1912 and 1922, as well as 1936 and 1947, no gymnastics festivals were held because of the two world wars. In 1947 the ETV switched to a 4-year cycle and in 1972 to a 6-year cycle. The gymnastics festival in Frauenfeld , which is scheduled for 2008, has been brought forward by one year in view of the European Football Championship in our own country and Austria . It will then take place every six years.
