The TV Töss is a gymnastics club from Winterthur - Töss .

history

TV Töss was founded in 1870 in the then still independent municipality of Töss and is now the second oldest gymnastics club in the city after the Stadtturnverein Winterthur . The first club symbol was a frog, which was replaced two years later by the first club flag. In 1871 he was accepted into the Cantonal Gymnastics Association. In 1898 the club organized the district gymnastics festival and in 1904 TV Töss hosted the Northeast Swiss Wrestling Festival. In 1908 the women's and youth teams were founded.

In 1920 the association organized the cantonal gymnastics day on the occasion of its 50th anniversary. The next decade was the most successful of the club in terms of sport. In 1922, TV Töss won the Federal Gymnastics Festival in St. Gallen ex aequo with the Bern Citizens Gymnastics Club . During this time, the most successful gymnast trained at the Olympic Games, Georges Miez , at TV Töss. In the course of his career from 1924 to 1936 he won eight medals at the Olympic Games, four of which were gold. Mieze's team-mate Melchior Wezel also took part in the 1928 Olympic Games , who also became Olympic champion in the team all-around competition with the Swiss team and was also a team world champion at the 1934 World Gymnastics Championships. In the same year, Mieze became world champion on the ground alongside the team. In 1927 the TV Töss organized a cantonal gymnastics festival in the Auwiesen.

The current men's squad was founded in 1942. In 1951 the gymnastics club was involved in the construction of the Rosenau gymnasium. In 1953 a women's group was founded. In 1966 the gymnastics club organized the Cantonal Artistic Gymnastics Day. In 1975 the new association organ of TV Töss appeared for the first time with the newsletter, which was discontinued in 2003 for financial reasons with the advent of the Internet. In 1978 TV Töss achieved the highest gymnastics grade at the Swiss Federal Gymnastics Festival in Geneva. Like other Winterthur gymnastics clubs, TV Töss was also involved in the organization of the 1984 Swiss Gymnastics Festival in Winterthur.

In 2000 the merger with TV Tössfeld, founded in 1895, took place. At the beginning of January 2016 the association had 312 members, 103 of whom were active members. In 1956 the association still had over 600 members.

The TV Töss is currently divided into the following ranks: active ranks (gymnasts), men's ranks, women's ranks, gym-fit ranks and fistball ranks. Young people are promoted in the youth group, the equipment group as well as in the youth fistball, while the youngest are combined in the MUKI and ELKI gymnastics.

The gymnastics veterans group Töss runs a monthly hike as an independent association. Its members are still interested in gymnastics in general and in what is happening within TV Töss in particular.
