The gymnastics club Länggasse Bern was founded on August 21, 1901 in the Café des Alpes, today's Restaurant Schanzenegg. The club trained in the Friedbühl gymnasium and the gym near the new Länggasschulhaus.


Various departments were established in the following years:

  • 1908: Men and youth groups
  • 1916: Ladies team
  • 1929: Mountain and ski ranks
  • 1932: handball
  • 1975: volleyball


For the 100th anniversary of the Langgasse Bern gymnastics club, in 2001 Henri Florio compiled a summary of the club's first century

Handball

The handball team was founded in 1932. In 1954 the first Swiss championship title in field handball was celebrated, in 1957 the second. 1956 followed the field handball cup victory. This success could be repeated in 1997, 1999 and 2002.

In 1988 the handball players were promoted to National League B , followed by promotion to National League A in 1994 .
