José María Granada

José María (de) Granada (aka José María Martin López ; born August 31, 1893 in Granada ; † May 1, 1960 ) was a Spanish playwright, screenwriter and director.

Granada completed a degree in theology and was ordained a priest at the age of 23. In his hometown he founded the Círcolo de Obreros de Nostra Senore de las Angustias . In addition, however, he began to publish poems and short stories in magazines. While traveling through Spain, he wrote reports on regional festivals, customs and traditions. From 1918 he lived in Madrid as a writer of Saineten, comedies and dramas.

Among other things, the Sainete Manolito Pmplinas (1922), the comedy La niña de los sueños (1927), the Zarzuela La ventera de Alcalá (composed in 1930 by Diego San José ), the drama La hija de Juan Simón (1930), the Sainete La Guapa (1931) and the Sainete El niño de oro . A joint work with Carlos Arniches , Antonio Paso and Antonio Estremera was Los celos me están matando (1926). He also founded a film production company. For this he wrote the screenplay for the film Flor de España (1925), which he also directed with Helena Cortesina .
