The See-Club Luzern is a Swiss rowing club based on Lake Lucerne in Lucerne , right next to the Reuss rowing club and next to the Lucerne canoeing club . The See-Club was founded in 1881 as the first rowing club on Lake Lucerne and, according to its own information, is the largest rowing club in Switzerland with around 600 members.

Members

The lake club has around 600 members, of which 400 are active and 200 are passive members. Moritz Rogger was elected President in the spring of 2016 at an Extraordinary General Meeting. He is replacing Brigitte Rohner after 4 years in office. In 2012 she succeeded Beat Mundhaas, whom she replaced after seven years in office.

Boathouses

The first boathouse, which was recognized as such, stood on Inseli in 1896, in 1930 it was replaced by the second, modernized boathouse on Inseli, which was replaced by the boathouse on the Ufschötti , which has been preserved to this day . This is to be completely renovated from 2017. Some renovations are necessary for structural reasons, others are desired due to changing needs and structures of the association.

Olympic participation

The See-Club Luzern looks back on a long list of Olympic participants. Since the Olympic Summer Games in Rio 2016 , Mario Gyr has also been an Olympic champion among the members.

National successes

After a professional head trainer ( Diethelm Maxrath ) took over the management of competitive sports in the summer of 2013 , the company was able to celebrate more and more important successes at national level. The club won the award for the strongest rowing club at the Swiss championships in 2015 and 2016. Particularly noticeable over the years is the Lucerne Eight, which, after finishing 2nd at the 2014 championships behind long-term rivals Seeclub Zürich , brought the coveted eighth title back to the See-Club Luzern in 2015 after more than 50 years. In 2016 the club eight also won the international rowing regatta in Aiguebelette. The championship finished eighth in 2016 in second place and in the Thames Cup at the Henley Royal Regatta it was enough for the quarter-finals. In 2016, the women's eight won the championship, as did Michael Schmid in the difficult single and Rafael Jeannaret with Julian Müller in the lightweight two-man. In total, the athletes of the See Club rowed 7 gold medals, 4 silver medals and 7 bronze medals. In 2017 the club reached 2nd place in the overall ranking of all clubs. The women's eight and the men's two-without (Kevin Stadelmann, Timon Wernas) won the Swiss championship.
