Sabrina Vega (gymnast)

Sabrina Vega (born May 24, 1995 ) is an American gymnast from Carmel (New York) . She is a member of the national team and World Champion 2011. At the Pan-American Games in 2009 she won gold once and silver twice.

Career

Sabrina Vega won her first national junior title in the USA in 2009. In 2010, she and the team became world champions among adults. She also won gold in the same year at the Pacific Rim Championships and the Pan American Championships. However, she failed in qualifying for the Olympics.

Sexual abuse on the US gymnastics team

In the wake of the abuse scandal in the US Gymnastics Federation US Gymnastics was announced that Vega as more than 250 other young athletes from longtime team doctor of the Gymnastics Federation, Larry Nassar had been sexually abused. She said she was molested hundreds of times by Nassar; the first time she was twelve years old.

In May 2018, Vega filed a lawsuit against Nassar, former coaches Bela and Martha Karolyi , the US Federation and the US Olympic Committee .
