In Cologne, first at VfB 05 and later at 1. FC , Wolfgang Wiesner began playing club football. He later played with Bonner SC in the Oberliga Nordrhein , before the second division Rot-Weiss Essen signed him . After two years in Essen as a substitute goalkeeper, he moved to BSV Stahl Brandenburg , who competed in the 2nd Bundesliga after the GDR leagues were dissolved. After relegation to the league, he stayed with the club for another year and signed a contract with SC Fortuna Köln in 1993 . There, too, he could not establish himself as a regular goalkeeper - his "competitors" in the position Adam Matysek , Walter Junghans and then Andreas Wessels were given preference. From 1998 he was active in the regional league at Wuppertaler SV , SC Paderborn 07 and at his first club as a professional, Rot-Weiss Essen. In 2002 he ended his higher-class career and then played as a goalkeeper a. a. still at the association league club FV Bad Honnef .
