The TuS Höhenhaus (officially: Turn- und Sportverein Höhenhaus 1919 eV) is a sports club from the Höhenhaus district of Cologne . The first soccer team played for six years in the highest amateur league in the Middle Rhine region.
history
The association was founded in 1919. After many decades at the local level, the team rose to the district class in 1956. There, TuS was runner-up behind SpVg Porz six years later and one year later made it to the Middle Rhine regional league . At the end of the 1960s, Karl-Heinz Gillet was involved in the association, first as a supervisor, then as a youth leader and finally as president. In 1967 the team was promoted to the Mittelrhein Association League, the highest amateur league at the time. After two years, he was relegated to the state league.
In 1973 they were relegated to the district class, and five years later the team made it again. Back in the national league, the Höhenhauser were runner-up in 1983 behind the SpVgg Oberaußem-Fortuna . Eleven years later, the championship followed and a renewed promotion to the Mittelrhein Association League. There the TuS was fourth in the promotion season 1994/95 with three points behind champions VfL Rheinbach . In 1997, the maker Gillet died after his third heart attack . A year later, the TuS was relegated from the association league and in 2000 said goodbye to the district league. The voluntary withdrawal from the district league followed three years later. In 2005 the TuS was relegated to the district league B and was promptly passed through to the district league C. Although they were promoted again in 2014, both men's teams were withdrawn from play a year later.
The club made headlines with its successful youth work. TuS benefited from the close contacts between Karl-Heinz Gillet and the then manager of Bayer 04 Leverkusen , Reiner Calmund . Along with Leverkusen and 1. FC Köln, Höhenhaus was one of the top three addresses on the Middle Rhine. In 1987 the A-youth of TuS Höhenhaus won the Middle Rhine Cup and qualified for the DFB Junior Club Cup . There, however, the team failed in the first round to Holstein Kiel . In 2000, the A-Jugend Mittelrheinmeister was promoted to the then first-class Regionalliga West .
