Career
As a player

In the same year he was promoted to the Bundesliga with Fortuna Düsseldorf .
As a trainer
At the end of his active career, Demandt became a coach at 1. FC Union Solingen . He left the Union in January 2006 and then became a youth coach at Rot-Weiss Essen . At the Sports University in Cologne, he acquired a license to teach football, classmates included Olaf Thon and his former teammate from Mainz, Jürgen Klopp . Since summer 2008 he has been coaching the A-youth of Borussia Mönchengladbach. On July 1, 2010 he took over the U-23 from Borussia Mönchengladbach with assistant coach Adrian Spyrka . At the end of the 2014/15 season he became champions of the Regionalliga West with the team.
From the 2015/16 season Demandt coached the third division club SV Wehen Wiesbaden . At the beginning of March 2016 he was given leave of absence due to unsuccessfulness - only one point won from the last six games.
On April 6, 2016, he became the new coach of the fourth division club Rot-Weiss Essen , with whom he managed to stay up after five wins in eight games and won the Niederrhein Cup in 2016. On October 1, 2017, Demandt was released from his duties as head coach. At the end of July 2019, he took over the post of head coach at the top division club SpVg Frechen 20 .
Trivia
During his active days, especially at Düsseldorf Fortuna and at 1. FSV Mainz 05, where the striker called "Refrigerator" heads the internal second division scorer list with 55 goals, Demandt enjoyed cult status with his fans because of his seemingly clumsy and stumbling manner, To play football - not least because he scored many goals despite his supposedly limited technical capabilities.
