Tomislav Marić (born January 28, 1973 in Heilbronn , Germany ) is a former Croatian football player and coach .
Player career
society
Marić is the brother of professional soccer player Marijo Marić . He started playing soccer as a child at TSV Talheim and came to SpVgg 07 Ludwigsburg via ESV Heilbronn and VfR Heilbronn , with whom he qualified for the regional soccer league in 1994 . Marić then moved to Karlsruher SC , for which he made his debut on October 7, 1994 in the away game at Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga . After stints in the second division at SG Wattenscheid 09 and the Stuttgarter Kickers , where Marić was top scorer in the second Bundesliga with 21 goals in the 1999/2000 season , he moved to Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg in 2000 .
In the 2001/02 Bundesliga season he set Lothar Emmerich's record by scoring a brace on four consecutive match days. With the exception of a loan to Borussia Mönchengladbach in the first half of 2004 , he played in the Autostadt. At VfL, the striker was also used in the second team, which was then known as the amateur team. In the summer of 2005 he moved to the Japanese club Urawa Red Diamonds , but only played there until the end of the year and returned to Germany in January 2006 . At that time he signed a contract with regional league club TSG 1899 Hoffenheim until 2009 and became a regular player in the team, which he then led to promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga . In the 2007/08 season , Marić was only a stand-by professional in the team and received a follow-up contract in the coaching staff.
National team
In 2002 and 2003, Marić played nine times for the Croatian national soccer team and scored two goals. At that time he was also used in five European qualifying matches and scored one goal in the Croatian team's 4-0 home win against Belgium .
Trainer and scout career
From the 2008/09 season to the 2009/10 season he was an assistant coach on the permanent coaching staff at TSG Hoffenheim. In summer 2011 he became a scout at VfB Stuttgart . On August 26, 2013 he was appointed assistant coach to the new head coach Thomas Schneider alongside Alfons Higl . On March 9, 2014, he was released from his duties together with head coach Thomas Schneider and his assistant coach colleague Alfons Higl due to a persistent negative series .
From January 2015 to June 2016 he was the head coach of the Slovak first division club DAC Dunajská Streda . Since then, Marić has been living in his native Heilbronn again.
