The Mittelrhein Regional Football League is the second highest division of the FVM and has been at the sixth highest level of the German league system since the NRW League was dissolved at the beginning of the 2012/13 season .

history

The Landesliga Mittelrhein was founded in the 1946/47 season, initially under the name Rheinbezirksliga, which was then the highest amateur league for the Mittelrhein Football Association. When the Association League Middle Rhine was founded in 1956, the state league was initially the second highest, and after the Oberliga Nordrhein was founded in 1978 it was only the third highest division on the Middle Rhine. Since the dissolution of the Oberliga Nordrhein in favor of the NRW-Liga in 2008, the Landesliga is again the second highest division.

In the German league system, the regional league was initially second class below the Oberliga West and has since slipped several times through the introduction of higher divisions ( 2nd Oberliga West 1949, Verbandsliga Mittelrhein 1956, Oberliga Nordrhein 1978, Regionalliga West 1994 and most recently 3rd League 2008) seventh level of the league system. However, since the league structure reform in 2012 and the associated dissolution of the NRW League, the Landesliga Mittelrhein has moved up from the seventh to the sixth league level in the football league system.

mode

The Landesliga Mittelrhein consists of two squadrons with a nominal strength of 16 teams each. The exact division of the squadrons is made every year according to geographical aspects.

There is no final between the season winners, the champions of each season are promoted to the Oberliga Mittelrhein , unless a team from the same club is already playing in this division. In this case, as well as in the case of renouncing promotion or in the event of a lack of economic performance, the next best placed, eligible for promotion and approved team of the respective relay moves up. The teams placed on the table ranks 14 and lower in each season are relegated to the district league. As a rule, only the champions rise from the district league to the state league.
